From an empty lab to your first T1: Building up an Experimental Research Group in Quantum

Abstract: Performing quantum computing experiments with superconducting circuits poses demanding requirements on lab environment, technical infrastructure and engineering capabilities. In this talk, I will present insights gained during the two-year ramp up of our research operation at FAU Erlangen. I will put particular emphasis on aspects of organizational development and the embedding into the local academic environment and I will discuss the rationale behind choices we have made on device fabrication, cryogenic system engineering and control electronics.
