Some of the cool things you can do with helium-3
Jere Mäkinen - Aalto University, Finland
Abstract: Since the discovery of superconductivity, quantum many-body systems have been an important aspect of modern physics. Despite the rich variety of available quantum many-body systems today, superfluid helium-3 remains the only fermionic spin-triplet condensate whose order parameter is known with certainty. In this talk, I will provide a brief introduction to helium-3 as an experimental model system and discuss modern research directions. In particular, I will focus on novel phases of matter (novel superfluid phases, time crystals) found within this system, the methods to create such states, and the types of topological defects these states can support.
