Swiss Quantum Initiative
The Swiss Quantum Initiative is one of the measures to support research and innovation that the Federal Council adopted in May 2022, and aims to consolidate Switzerland's excellent position in the field of quantum science and technologies.

The aim of the external page Swiss Quantum Initiative (SQI) is to strengthen Switzerland's excellent position in the field of quantum technology by launching bilateral and multilateral collaborations within and outside of Europe. This will be achieved by targeted support for research and innovation through competitive calls for proposals, the development of attractive educational curricula, knowledge and technology transfer in collaboration with industry, and international cooperation. A prior measure was the external page Quantum Transitional Call by the external page Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF).
The SQI is coordinated and led by the external page Swiss Quantum Commission (SQC) that is formed by a group of leading experts in the field, including Prof. Jonathan Home, one of the Co-Directors of the Quantum Center at ETH Zurich. The commission has started its work in the beginning of 2023 and is hosted by the external page Swiss Academy of Sciences (SCNAT), mandated by the Swiss Confederation. The action plan of the commission includes:
- Focusing research funding by defining the framework for competitive calls subsequently conducted by the SNSF
- Nationally coordinating development of infrastructures and platforms for the transfer of knowledge and technology
- Developing attractive curricula and evaluate measures to meet the high demand for specialists
- Strengthening international partnerships
