Lorenzo Dania

Quantum Center Research Fellow in the Photonics Laboratory at the Department of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering since 2024.

As a Quantum Center postdoctoral fellow, Lorenzo Dania will use optically levitated nanoparticles to study the birth and the death of large quantum states of motion. Lorenzo plans to prepare a highly pure quantum ground state of motion of a glass nanoparticle and then to expand this state to a macroscopic size while preserving the state purity against classical noise sources. These studies promise to shed light on the validity of quantum mechanics at large mass and length scales, with implications for fundamental physics and quantum technologies.

Lorenzo Dania completed his PhD at the University of Innsbruck in Austria in December 2023, working on hybrid quantum systems with charged nanoparticles and atomic ions. In 2023 he joined the Photonics Laboratory of Lukas Novotny at ETH Zurich.
