Abstract: A useful quantum computing system is impossible without tailored software, the careful design of which is critical especially in the NISQ era. We will outline our vision for quantum middleware and its key role in the quantum stack, with examples of how it improves the performance of the NISQ hardware.Haiqu is building quantum middleware that seeks to enable meaningful applications to be run on near-term quantum computers. We will introduce our team, and discuss how high-level execution strategies combined with low-level techniques can yield surprising performance gains on noisy devices. We will preview some of the open source software tools Haiqu is working on, and discuss research collaboration and student internship opportunities.
